The Journey: From Rome to Tuscany’s Heart
Our adventure began with a flight into Rome, landing early under a clear March sky. After a quick espresso and sfogliatella at a local café, we picked up our rental car and hit the road. The drive to Tuscany was a visual feast—rolling hills dotted with olive groves, charming villages, and the scent of blooming flowers filling the air. We made a pit stop in Orvieto, a medieval town perched on a volcanic cliff, known for its stunning duomo and Etruscan ruins. Walking its narrow, cobbled streets felt like stepping back in time, with sweeping views that left us in awe. It was the perfect prelude to our destination, La Foce, nestled in the Val d’Orcia valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Arriving at La Foce: A Dream in Bloom
La Foce, designed by English architect Cecil Pinsent, is a masterpiece of Italian gardens, blending formal layouts with natural beauty. The estate, surrounded by tall cypress trees, features a 16th-century villa with rustic stone walls and terracotta roofs, exuding old-world charm. We were greeted with Prosecco and biscotti, our room overlooking the gardens, where the golden light of late afternoon bathed the valley below.
Rehearsal Dinner: A Taste of Tuscany
The rehearsal dinner was held in the villa’s courtyard, adorned with twinkling fairy lights and an abundance of flowers. The table, set with white linens and crystal glasses, glowed under candlelight, creating an intimate, elegant atmosphere.
The sound of birdsong and cicadas created a serene backdrop, setting the tone for the celebration ahead.
The Wedding Day: Love Under the Tuscan Sun
The wedding day dawned clear and bright, the sun casting a golden glow over La Foce’s gardens. The ceremony was held under a flower arch, with the bride radiant in a silk and lace gown and Will handsome in his tuxedo.
Their vows, simple and heartfelt, reflected their love, surrounded by the estate’s timeless beauty. The reception moved to the ballroom, decorated with candles and flowers, a string quartet playing as guests savored Tuscan delights like creamy burrata and succulent lamb.
As night fell, the party shifted to the courtyard, where we danced under the stars, the band’s music filling the air with joy and promise for the newlyweds.
Our stay wasn’t just about the wedding; we explored the region’s gems. In Pienza, we wandered its Renaissance streets, sampling pecorino cheese and handmade chocolates in the lively town square.
Montepulciano offered wine tastings amidst rolling vineyards, where we learned about local grapes and winemaking, deepening our appreciation for Tuscany’s art.
A visit to the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, an 8th-century Benedictine monastery, was a spiritual highlight, its ancient stones echoing with monks’ chants, leaving a lasting impression.
